Political Resources on the
Net
This is a very comprehensive, annotated directory of political sites available
on the Internet searchable by country. It has links to the political parties,
information about the political system, constitution, the media, and more.
Governments on the Web
Not much to look at, but has great links to government institutions on
the Web, including parliaments, ministries, political parties, parliamentary
groups, youth organizations, courts, embassies, and city councils from
all over the world.
Diplomacy
Monitor
This is an INCREDIBLE tool. The St. Thomas University School of Law is
reviewing, annotating, and indexing official diplomatic government documents
released on the WWW, including press briefings, communiques, news releases,
position papers, transcripts, a real gold mine of primary resources. Even
better, though, you can access these in an amazing array of ways -- by
issue, by country originating the document, by country affected by the
document, bilaterally (as in "between two specific countries"),
and more. This is a real example of the best of the web.
Freedom House
This site has been a non-partisan, non-profit champion of democracy for
over 60 years. Since 1972 it has surveyed the world and issued reports
on the state of freedom in each country. Read about HOW they determine
this. Then, see how free different countries really are by looking at
the country reports.

Congress Portals to the World
This site "... contains selective links providing authoritative, in-depth
information about the nations and other areas of the world ... arranged
by country or area with the links for each sorted into a wide range of
broad categories. The links were selected by Area Specialists and other
Library staff using Library of Congress selection criteria."

Internet Center for Corruption
Research
This site is provided by Transparency International and Goettingen University,
Germany. The goal of the site to "rank countries by the extent of corruption
in public administration." This page is especially useful in election
years.

International Affairs Resources
One of the WWW Virtual Library pages has "...over 2000 annotated links
in a range of international affairs topics "(to quote them!). Scan the
topics, which include some unusual ones, like "International Communications"
or "Global Environment" or "World Religions", to see if one suits your
need, in which case, this is a great source! Also different is the set
of links to sources in several major languages, French, Spanish, and German.

Elections Around the World
This site is, to quote the Librarian's Index to the Internet, "A comprehensive
resource on elections in every independent country and autonomous overseas
dependency in the world. In addition to detailed information on each country
and its political system, there is an up-to-date calendar of elections,
upcoming and past (with results) back to 1990. This is the heart of maintainer
Wilfried Derksen's Electoral Web Sites, which also includes a Worldwide
Directory of Parties and Parliaments Around the World. Additionally there
is an annotated list of links to several other political databases."

Virtual Library: Indigenous Studies
This website is what must be a truly comprehensive collection of links
to sites by and about indigenous peoples around the world. There are general
resources such as Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO),
links listed by geographic region and specific peoples, and under "Other
Useful Resources" are links to things like Rainforest Action Network and
the UN.

Initiative on Conflict
Resolution and Ethnicity Country Guides (INCORE)
These guides are the product of a partnership between the University of
Ulster and the United Nations University. Their goal is to provide scholarly
information on ethnic conflicts in a selected countries all over the world.
As of today, 44 countries are included from Latin America, Africa, Europe
and Asia. It is important to read the Information
About the Guides to understand the scope and limitation of the information
provided as well as gain an appreciation for their value! Among the annotated
resources in each guide are virtual libraries, reports from NGOs, articles,
interviews, news sources, maps, government documents. It is a real wealth
of information.

This site is a project of the Canadian government (you can read it in
French if you want!) to help new immigrants to Canada. Each profile tells

Project
This project is an excellent source for current events information outside
the U.S. It doesn't produce any information, really, but does provide
a wealth of links to a wide variety of authoritative sources. Start out
